COLUMBUS, Ohio — Six months ago, Alejandro Fajardo-Torres was shot and killed while trying to stop an armed robbery inside an AutoZone near Polaris.
The Fajardo family said things haven’t been the same since Alex was killed in August.
“He’s the middle child. We always knew he was the glue but we didn’t realize how much until he was gone,” said Selvya Fajardo, Alex’s sister.
Alex left behind an 11-year-old son, Alexander, who was his world. Alexander has cerebral palsy and his sister Selvya said Alex committed his life to helping him physically and emotionally. Alex and his son both loved superheroes.
“He idolized Superman and now he’s going down as one. That’s what we are trying to show my nephew,” said Selvya.
Alex was also a friend to so many. John Butler knew Alex his whole life and said Alex was the type of guy who would do anything for you.
“My first reaction was, I was heartbroken because he was gone, but it didn’t really surprise me that he stepped up and tried to do the right thing. He tried to help somebody,” he said.
He wants people to know that Alex was one of a kind.
“Never forget Alex. The world lost a great human and a great person. This world could use more people like Alex in it,” he said.
Three men, 21-year-old Zackeyis Davis, 28-year-old Darius Wynn and 28-year-old Anthony Blakely, have been arrested and charged in Alex’s case.
Selvya said they want justice for Alex.
“These people who did this crime maybe didn’t have the intention of what happened but someone lost their life,” she said.
Selvya said she feels relief that people have been arrested, but they hope one day to have closure.
“This 11-year-old kid who depended so much physically on his father and emotional support is not going to be here. I think it's just that the other people who took part in this have the same because we will never get him back,” said Selvya.
