COLUMBUS, Ohio — A strong storm system slowly moved through central Ohio Tuesday night and into early Wednesday morning.

The storms brought strong winds, lightning and hail. Multiple tornado warnings were issued throughout the state. Flooding was also a concern as many counties were under a flood watch or warning.

Emergencies management agencies across central Ohio did not report any damage from the storms late Tuesday night.

Videos on social media showed possible tornadoes in the southern and northwestern parts of Ohio. The National Weather Service said teams will survey Warren County and potentially Darke/mercer counties if staffing allows.

Ohio was just one of several states struck by severe weather on Tuesday.

In southwestern Michigan, two tornadoes blitzed the city of Portage near Kalamazoo. The sheriff’s office there said multiple trees and power lines were down in the area. A FedEx building was destroyed, debris left resting on delivery vehicles, but a company spokesperson said there were no serious injuries despite the severe damage.

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has cited more than a dozen reports of tornadoes from Monday evening through early Tuesday in the central part of the United States. Eight of the twisters were in Oklahoma, while Kansas, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Tennessee all saw at least one tornado.

Back in Ohio, Wednesday is looking to be mostly calm but there could be some overnight storms. However, they are not expected to be as strong or severe.
