Man found guilty on murder charges in deadly shooting of 33-year-old woman in North Linden home

The prosecutor’s office says that their 2-month-old daughter was in the room at the time of the shooting.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was found guilty Monday of fatally shooting a woman in their North Linden home two years ago, according to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.

A jury found 33-year-old Dallas Lowery guilty of one count of murder, one count of felony murder, one count of domestic violence and one count of tampering with evidence. Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Brown found him guilty of one count of having weapons while under disability.

The shooting happened on Feb. 22, 2022 in the 1700 block of Melrose Avenue.

According to a filing in Franklin County Municipal Court, a Columbus Division of Police officer wrote that Lowery initially called police saying 33-year-old Heather Chapman had died by suicide.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene to begin an investigation due to suspicious circumstances. As officers investigated, they could not find the gun at the scene.

Police wrote in the affidavit that Chapman initially refused to make a statement but admitted over a phone conversation that he was the only one with Chapman when she was shot.

According to court records, witnesses said that Lowery gave the gun to a friend to get rid of the night of the shooting. Police found the gun with the reported friend and the gun matched the shell casing at the scene.

The prosecutor’s office says that their 2-month-old daughter was in the room at the time of the shooting.

Court records show that Lowery pleaded guilty in Aug. 2021 to resisting arrest and spitting on a law enforcement officer. He was sentenced in Sept. 2021 to two years of community control sanctions.

Records also show that he was arrested on April 27, 2022 for "failing to abide with community control sanctions" and a Delaware County judge ordered him to be held another 100 days in jail.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 25. Lowery faces 18 years to life in prison.
