Madison County man convicted of murder in connection to woman's shooting death on Easter

The trial, which lasted three days, ended in the sentencing of Zachary Warnock to 36 years to life in prison for the shooting that took place on April 17, 2022.

MADISON COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — The Madison County Sheriff's Office announced the conviction of a man on Friday who fatally shot a woman last Easter in Madison County.

Zachary Warnock, 34, was convicted in Madison County Common Pleas Court of murder, tampering with evidence, felonious assault and discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises. 

The trial, which lasted three days, ended in the sentencing of Warnock to 36 years to life in prison for the shooting that took place on April 17, 2022.

Deputies were called to the Village of South Solon on reports of shots being fired from a vehicle. As deputies were heading to the scene, a vehicle pulled into the Jefferson Township Fire Department parking lot in Fayette County with a person inside who was suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, who was identified by the Fayette County Coroner as 29-year-old Alexandra Goins of Sylvania, was pronounced dead despite life-saving measures. 

After launching an investigation, the sheriff’s office arrested Warnock.

According to records from Madison County Municipal Court, witnesses saw Warnock picking up spent bullet casings near the intersection of the shooting.

Sheriff John Swaney confirmed to 10TV that Goins and Warnock were friends. The sheriff added that Goins was coming down to visit Warnock.
