COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police identified the man killed in a shooting on the city’s south side Thursday afternoon. Police have also arrested a suspect in the case.

Around 3 p.m., officers were called to the 700 block of Reinhard Avenue for a reported shooting. Police found 20-year-old Najaa Ellman who was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:08 p.m.

Witnesses told investigators Ellman was with some friends when he started arguing with 19-year-old Lawuan Williams. At some point during the argument, police said Wiliams pulled out a handgun and shot Ellman.

Williams left the area in a 2020 Nissan Altima. Police also said someone fired shots at Williams, but detectives did not say if he was hit by any gunfire.

Officers found the Nissan near the intersection of East Livingston Avenue and Kenilworth Place shortly after the shooting. Williams was hiding in a nearby residence and surrendered himself to police.
