Police: 1 person in 'extremely critical' condition after south Columbus shooting

Police said officers were called out to the area of Parsons Avenue and East Whittier Street around 11:52 a.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person was seriously injured during a shooting in south Columbus Wednesday morning.

Police said officers were called out to the COTA bus stop on East Whittier Street, just east of Parsons Avenue around 11:52 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they rendered aid to a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said it appeared that there was a verbal argument between two people when one of them took out a gun and shot the victim.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center and they are in "extremely critical" condition. Police said it is unknown at this time if the victim will survive their injuries.

According to Franklin County Municipal Court documents, 46-year-old Shawn Higgs is charged with felonious assault in connection to the shooting.

Higgs was arraigned on Saturday and has a bond of $500,085. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 5.
