Columbus man pleads guilty to shooting man at North Linden convenient store

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man pleaded guilty in the shooting death of a man in North Linden nearly two years ago.

On the night of May 14, Columbus police received reports of a car being driven against a guard rail on Interstate 71 near Morse Road. Police said a person stopped to check on the driver and saw he was shot. 

The driver, identified as 45-year-old Anthony Luney, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michael Thilat, 31, shot Luney at a convenience store on Maize Road during a drug deal, according to previous court records. Thilat confessed to shooting him.

Thilat accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter with a three-year firearm specification. He was sentenced to 14 to 19.5 years in prison.
