COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 46-year-old man charged with felonious assault in connection to a shooting in south Columbus that left one person seriously hurt last week was arrested Saturday.

The shooting took place near a COTA bus stop on East Whittier Street, just east of Parsons Avenue, around 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday.

Franklin County Municipal Court documents say a video was obtained that reportedly showed Shawn Higgs arriving at the bus stop on a black electric bike.

A COTA bus then arrived at the stop and the victim got off the bus.

Court docs say that Higgs and the victim were seen having a conversation in the video before Higgs was shoved. Higgs then allegedly pulled out a firearm and began shooting at the victim, according to records.

The victim reportedly attempted to walk away while being shot and Higgs followed him. The victim then walked into the street, fell to the ground and Higgs allegedly stood over him and fired “several more times,” records say.

Court documents say that after the shooting, Higgs reportedly left on his bike and was followed by his girlfriend, 41-year-old Elizabeth Ferrell, who was also at the scene on another electric bike.

Ferrell is charged with tampering with evidence.

When officers with the Columbus Division of Police arrived at the scene, they rendered aid to the victim who they said was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center and they are in "extremely critical" condition. Police said it is unknown at this time if they will survive their injuries.

Higgs was arraigned on Saturday and has a bond of $500,085. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 5.
