Coroner's office IDs woman fatally struck near Easton

Police say Melissa Shannon was crossing Morse Road in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a red Dodge Challenger.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Franklin County Coroner's Office identified the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle near Easton Town Center on Saturday.

The Columbus Division of Police.was called to the intersection of Stelzer and Morse roads just before 5:30 a.m. on reports of a pedestrian struck.

Police say 49-year-old Melissa Shannon was crossing Morse Road in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a red Dodge Challenger.

The driver stayed on scene following the incident, police dispatchers told 10TV.

Shannon was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 6:20 a.m.

Police did not provide additional information about the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
