Man dies after being struck while crossing the street in north Columbus; police searching for driver

The incident happened just after 9:15 p.m. at Tamarack Boulevard and Morse Road.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 51-year-old man died after he was struck while crossing the street in north Columbus Monday night. Police are looking for the driver involved in the deadly crash.

The incident happened just after 9:15 p.m. at Tamarack Boulevard and Morse Road. Police initially told 10TV that officers were called to a reported shooting in the area, but clarified Tuesday that the call was for a crash.

Just before 9:15 p.m., Charles Bujereri was at Tamarack Boulevard and Morse Road. Police said Bujereri started crossing Tamarack Boulevard at a location where no crosswalk was in place.

At the same time, a Ford Expedition approached the area traveling south and struck Bujereri. The vehicle did not stop and continued driving south.

Bujereri was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m.

Police found the Ford Expedition unoccupied in the 900 block of Atlantic Avenue. The driver of the vehicle has not been identified.
