ORIENT, Ohio — Three inmates were hospitalized after a bus heading to Pickaway Correctional Institution crashed Friday afternoon, according to Lt. Ray Santiago with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. near Orient, just under 4 miles away from the prison. Two Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction workers were inside the bus at the time that it crashed.
Santiago says the staff members are being evaluated by facility medical staff and the prisoners were taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. Their conditions were described as stable.
It’s unclear if any other vehicles were involved.
The incident remains under investigation.
