Records: Franklin County jail inmate stabs another inmate several times

Charles Fleming is charged in the stabbing of 20-year-old Tayeshawn Gavin.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — A Franklin County jail inmate is accused of stabbing another inmate multiple times inside a cell, according to court records.

Charles Fleming is charged in the stabbing of 20-year-old Tayeshawn Gavin. Fleming is currently being held on murder and assault charges related to the fatal 2023 shooting of Chrishon Fisher. Gavin is accused in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Chaz Fleming in March 2022.

On March 20, Fleming and Gavin were in a holding cell at the Franklin County Corrections Center II with other inmates.

Franklin County Municipal Court records state that Fleming pulled out an 8-inch piece of sharpened metal with a fabric handle from his waistband. He began stabbing Gavin's head and neck several times.

Court records did not state whether Fleming and Gavin knew each other before the stabbing or the severity of Gavin’s injuries.

Fleming is charged with felonious assault and possession of a deadly weapon while under detention in connection with last week’s incident. He is scheduled to be arranged on those charges on Thursday.
