COLUMBUS, Ohio — Athletes, volunteers and other people will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated or a negative COVID-19 test ahead of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon next month.

The announcement was made on the event's website.

The vaccination proof or negative test applies to the athletes, volunteers, event personnel and vendors who are in "active athlete areas" which include the Health & Fitness Expo, start/finish areas and fluid stations.

People who are picking up a race number and t-shirt at the Health & Fitness Expo on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16 must also show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

Masks will be required inside the Health & Fitness Expo due to the mask order issued by Mayor Andrew Ginther last week.

The expo is being held at the Great Columbus Convention Center.

Event organizers announced back in May they planned to hold the marathon in person.

The marathon was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
