A doctor lost his license on Wednesday after his actions were found to violate The Pill Mill Law.

Dr. Daniel Brumfield used to work in the now closed Ohio Medical West, 10TV’s Chuck Strickler reported.

Brumfield defended his actions before the state medical board on Wednesday.

When House Bill 93, or The Pill Mill Law, went into effect this summer, rules were changed for pain medication clinics, like the one where Brumfield worked, Strickler reported.

“I, along with management, came up with a way to increase the number of non-pain patients by asking patients to bring a friend. In hindsight that was a terrible idea,” said Brumfield.

Brumfield has a history before the board.  His license was revoked in 2005 after a relapse of a cocaine addiction, but his license was later reinstated, Strickler reported.

“He has stuck his thumb in your face and said ‘I’m not going to abide by the rules of the Medical Practices Act,’” said Kyle Wilcox, Ohio Assistant Attorney General.

The medical board agreed, taking swift action to permanently revoke Brumfield’s license, Strickler reported.

Medical Board Executive Director Rick Whitehouse said this case shows the strength of the new law.
