Thousands left without power in central Ohio following Wednesday's severe weather

As of Thursday at 5:30 a.m., there are more than 5,000 AEP customers without power in Franklin County.

After an evening of severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings, the severe weather threat is over for central Ohio. 

As of Thursday at 5:30 a.m., there are more than 5,000 AEP customers without power in Franklin County, more than 2,500 in Delaware County, more than 2,900 in Knox County, nearly 500 in Licking County, more than 600 in Fairfield County, and more than 4,500 in Muskingum County.

Approximately 500 South Central Power customers in Ross County do not have power as well as 600 in Fairfield County, and more than 1,200 in Hocking County.

There were reports of trees down in Franklin County and Madison County and poles and wires down in Pickaway County. Cleanup from the storm in Marion city is also underway. 

More sunshine and lower humidity are forecasted for Thursday.

Forecast (3 p.m. update)

Hot & humid this evening with strong storms developing to our west and moving east through the evening commute. 

The bulk of severe storm activity will move through central Ohio between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. tonight. Damaging winds & hail are the main threats but an isolated spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out. 

We’ll dry out through the night turning partly cloudy & seasonable. 

Extended Forecast: 

Skies turn mostly sunny on Thursday with seasonable highs near 80. 

More sun, nice & seasonable on Friday. It’ll be cooler over the weekend with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies & highs in the low to mid-70s. 

We’re back near average on Monday & Tuesday with the slight chance for a late day shower on Tuesday. Turning warmer midweek & beyond.
