Face the State with Scott Light | January 6, 2019

This week: New leadership in Ohio, battle for House Speaker and CCS not making the grade.

This week on Face The State:

  • New leadership - Governor-elect Mike DeWine chooses more people to fill his cabinet. We discuss what his choices could say about the way he'll governor Ohio and compare his ways to outgoing Governor John Kasich.
  • Battle for House Speaker - Last month the Ohio House Republicans voted to re-elect state Rep. Ryan Smith as House Speaker over Rep. Larry Householder. The full House votes on Monday. We look at the impact that role could have on the lives of people across Ohio.
  • Not making the grade - Columbus City Schools is about to welcome a new leader in Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon. She comes at a time when Ohio's largest school district is in danger of state takeover because of consistent failing grades. Our panel discusses how "The Youngstown Plan" applies and whether the state should have the right to take over a public school system.

Guest this week:

  • Brent Swander -- V.P. of Government Affairs for Columbus Realtors
  • Amanda Wurst - Remington Road Group
  • Lauren Huddleston - Attorney at Grant Street Consultants
  • Romin Iqbal - Legal Director for the Council on American Islamic Relations
