WASHINGTON — Actress Ashley Park revealed on Instagram Friday that she is recovering after a case of tonsillitis developed into "critical septic shock," impacting several of her organs.

The "Emily in Paris" star said the major health scare happened while she was on vacation in December into New Years and landed her in the intensive care unit for a week.

"I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told," Park stated in her post, accompanied by photos and videos of her in the hospital.

According to the Sepsis Alliance, septic shock is the most severe form of sepsis and patients "in septic shock are often called the 'sickest patients in the hospital.' The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains that sepsis is the body's extreme response to an infection and without timely treatment, can quickly lead to tissue damage, organ failure and death.

In her post, Park thanked the medical staff who treated her, her family, and most of all her boyfriend and "Emily in Paris" castmate Paul Forman for being by her side through the scary ordeal.

"You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know," she wrote.

Park added that she has hesitated to share what's been happening because she's "still in the throes of recovery," but now knows that she's safely on the other side of the worst

The Tony nominee also originated the role of Gretchen Wieners in Broadway's "Mean Girls" musical and makes a cameo in the recently released movie musical.
