COLUMBUS, Ohio — Whitehall is in the beginning phase of a new redevelopment and revitalization project which will impact the corner of East Broad Street and North Hamilton Road.

The new $300 million development plan includes 1,000 residential units, both for sale and rent, and office, retail, and restaurant space. The redevelopment plan will also integrate into the Whitehall Community Park.

A kickoff for the project took place on Thursday at the site of the former Woodcliff Condominiums in Whitehall.

“The City of Whitehall and Mayor Kim Maggard have worked tirelessly over many years to make this dream a reality on the corner of Broad and Hamilton,” said Zach Woodruff, Whitehall City Administrator. “Bringing affordable homes, new jobs, new businesses and new visitors to Whitehall has been our priority. This demolition kickoff is just the beginning of a major revitalization of this intersection in our City – from new roads and sidewalks to new park connections and greenspace.”

The city of Whitehall acquired the 35-acre site in 2019 as the result of a 12-year nuisance case. The city was then awarded a $4.18 million grant from the Ohio Department of Development last month to help with site demolition.

The 35-acre site is combined with a 15-acre adjacent parcel and is located within the Interstate 270 outerbelt and near the John Glenn International Airport.

The project is estimated to have a $4.7 billion economic impact on the region and will bring more than 3,000 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent jobs to the city.

20% of the housing units being constructed will be dedicated to workforce housing, according to the Department of Development.

The project is in its demolition and construction phase now with the opening of Phase I anticipated in 2025.
