Driver dies from injuries in Franklin County crash involving stolen Kia

The 15-year-old driver is charged with receiving stolen property.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The driver of a Honda who was involved in a stolen-vehicle crash with multiple juveniles over the weekend has died from their injuries, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened Saturday in the area of Hilliard-Rome and Beacon Hill roads in Prairie Township. Investigators said a 15-year-old was driving a Kia Optima with three other juveniles inside when they ran a stop sign and crashed into a Honda Civic.

A spokesperson with the sheriff’s office said the Kia was stolen from Daytona Road in Lincoln Village that morning.

The driver of the Honda was taken to a hospital in critical condition. In an update on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said the driver died. Their identity has not been released. 

The four juveniles were taken to another hospital for treatment and their conditions were described as stable.

The 15-year-old is charged with receiving stolen property. Investigators did not say whether the juveniles could face additional charges.
