Dash, bodycam video shows stolen SUV crash in Bexley

The SUV was stolen out of the Linden area Tuesday morning.

BEXLEY, Ohio — Police released dash and body-worn camera video showing the moments two teenage girls were taken into custody after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle into Bexley and Columbus police cruisers and another vehicle on Tuesday.

Columbus Division of Police officers responded to a call from someone about a stolen SUV. The caller, who is a relative of the SUV's owner, said they had been following the vehicle.

The SUV was spotted at the intersection of Bexford Place and South Cassady Avenue around 7:15 a.m.

Dashcam video from Bexley police shows officers pull up to the stolen vehicle as it crashed into a Columbus police cruiser, another vehicle and then a Bexley cruiser while trying to get away.

Police officers from both departments can be seen getting out of their vehicles with guns drawn, demanding the girls get out of the car.

The passenger in the car was audibly upset as the officers handcuffed her.

Bexley officers then put the suspect in the back of the police cruiser. The suspect behind the wheel was identified as a 13-year-old girl. She was also taken into custody.

Police said the SUV was stolen from a neighborhood in Linden this morning. The family of the victim said the mother was warming up the car in her driveway before taking her kids to school when it was taken.

Police said no one was injured during the incident.
