PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A Columbus man died after a crash in Pickaway County Tuesday night. Another man was critically injured.

The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the crash just before 9:15 p.m. in the area of US Route 23 and state Route 762.

Sheriff Matthew Hafey said two men were inside a 2014 black Chevrolet Equinox heading south on US Route 23. That was when the vehicle veered off the road and left into the median, causing it to go airborne and roll over.

Hafey said the driver, 33-year-old James Daniels, was trapped inside his vehicle and was freed by fire personnel. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle.

Daniels was taken to Grant Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The passenger was taken by medical flight to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.

The Harrison Township Fire Department, Scioto Township Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with the crash, which remains under investigation
