COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was arrested after a high-speed pursuit in the Polaris area involving a stolen vehicle on Tuesday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Just after 2:20 a.m., a trooper attempted to stop a 2017 Dodge Challenger on Interstate 71 for a speed violation. The vehicle did not stop, and a pursuit started.

Investigators learned that the vehicle was stolen out of Franklin County.

OSHP said the Dodge was traveling at high rates of speed on I-71 North before exiting onto Gemini Place and heading south on the interstate.

The Dodge took the exit to Cooke Road and stopped. The driver and a passenger got out of the vehicle and started running away.

OSHP said the passenger, identified as 18-year-old Gabriel Mathieu, was arrested at the bottom of the off-ramp to Cooke Road. Authorities did not find the driver.

An 18-year-old woman and her toddler were found in the backseat of the vehicle. OSHP did not say how they were involved, but they were taken back home by troopers.

Mathieu is currently being held in the Franklin County Corrections Center. He is charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and receiving stolen property.
