GROVE CITY, Ohio — Police arrested a Columbus man who is charged in connection to a deadly shooting at a Grove City hotel more than a year ago.

Willie Williams, 19, was taken into custody Wednesday and is currently being held in Franklin County Correction Center. The charges stemmed from the shooting death of 17-year-old Vonzell Williamson in December 2021.

On Dec. 26, police were called to a reported shooting at the Comfort Inn, located at 4197 Mariane Drive. Officers found Williamson and an 18-year-old man were shot in the hotel parking lot.

Williamson was taken to a hospital where he later died. The second man was taken to a hospital and police described his condition as stable.

Records from Franklin County Municipal court say that Williams aided two suspects with the deadly shooting. He was 18 at the time when the incident happened.

According to the complaint written by Grove City police, Williams was seen on surveillance video arriving at the hotel with two other people in the suspect vehicle and leaving the area in the same vehicle.

Additional details of Williams’ involvement in the shooting were not provided in the court records.

Police said they were able to identify Williams by several public tips and photos from the BMV. Police did not provide more information on the other suspects involved in the deadly shooting.

Williams was arraigned on Jan. 26 and given a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 3.
