New low country seafood restaurant opens in downtown Columbus

Columbus diners will now be able to buy seafood like mussels, shrimp, scallops, crab, clams, calamari, swordfish, oysters and more.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A new restaurant specializing in low country seafood and hospitality is now open in downtown Columbus.

Hank’s Low County Seafood & Raw Bar opened its location at 6 W Gay St. on April 23. Columbus diners will now be able to buy seafood like mussels, shrimp, scallops, crab, clams, calamari, swordfish, oysters and more.

Hank’s Low Country classics include shrimp and grits, seared grouper, seafood a ‘la wando, grilled swordfish, buttermilk-fried chicken, sauteed flounder and broiled Maine lobster.

The restaurant is open from 4-10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The lounge is also open Tuesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. until close.

The only other Hank’s is in Charleston, South Carolina, and this year, the restaurant is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Guests can make reservations through OpenTable or by walking in. Right now, the restaurant is only open for dinner, but it has plans of opening for lunch and also offering Sunday brunches beginning in June.

When guests walk in, they will find a Raw Bar located right off the main dining room that showcases a selection of fresh seafood.

Frank McMahon, culinary director of Makeready, said he is looking forward to success and revitalizing the whole area.

“To see what we’ve done here in this little corner and the restaurant itself – how beautiful it is - I’m just really thrilled to be part of it,” McMahon said.
