82-year-old woman pulled from burning vehicle by good Samaritan dies at hospital

A bystander noticed the vehicle in the road and helped Linda Stinson out before medics arrived.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An 82-year-old woman is dead and a 62-year-old man is seriously injured after a vehicle they were in caught fire Sunday afternoon in Ross County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident happened on state Route 207 near Cattail Road around 2:55 p.m. OSHP says a Honda Element, driven by the man, was heading southbound and came to a stop when the passenger compartment caught on fire.

The man was able to leave the vehicle, but his passenger, Linda Stinson, was trapped inside.

A bystander noticed the vehicle in the road and helped Stinson out before medics arrived.

Stinson and the driver were flown to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The man is in critical condition and Stinson died from her injuries, according to OSHP.

The bystander was taken to Adena Regional Medical Center for minor injuries where he was treated and later released.

The Ohio State Fire Mashal is investigating the cause of the fire.
