Some Pickerington schools close, dismiss early due to power outage from severe storms

The district did not provide an estimated time on when power could be restored.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Pickerington Schools announced that some of its schools are closed or dismissed early because of a loss of electricity from the overnight severe storms.

The following five schools affected by the power outage are:

  • Pickerington High School Central
  • Ridgeview Junior High School
  • Diley Middle School
  • Pickerington Elementary School
  • Sycamore Creek Elementary School

Ridgeview Junior High School students will be released early from classes at 10:15 a.m. Students who ride the bus will be taken home at that time. The other four schools are closed for the day.

The district did not provide an estimated time on when power could be restored.

Dozens of other school districts in central Ohio were on a delayed start time Wednesday because of strong winds, storm damage or flooding that impacted the morning commute.

Several homes and properties in the western part of central Ohio sustained heavy damage from the storms. Areas like Franklin, Licking, Fairfield, Madison and Pickaway counties were under a Tornado Warning.
