Traffic Camera Video Shows Tornado Touch Down

We're getting a glimpse of the tornado that touched down last week on the city's Far East side, thanks to an Ohio Department of Transportation traffic camera. See the video.

We're getting a glimpse of the tornado that touched down last Wednesday on the city's Far Eastside, thanks to an Ohio Department of Transportation traffic camera.

The camera's footage was used by the National Weather Service to confirm the tornado touchdown.

The camera, located along Interstate 270 north of Broad Street, recorded dust and other debrisbeing kicked up by the tornado.  Motorists along I-270 can be seen stopping their vehicles asthe storm appeared to move across the freeway.

The tornado lasted about one minute, with winds estimated at 65 mph. It was rated an EF0, at thelow end of the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which measures tornadoes.

Although it caused no significant damage, video showed a "brief tornado circulation in contactwith the ground," a statement from the National Weather Service said.
