Program Aims To Save 'Dream' Of Homeownership

A national program that helps struggling homeowners keep their property is in Columbus this weekend. Get the details.

For homeowners facing foreclosure, a program being held at the Ohio Expo Center this weekendcould help.

The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America has brought its Save the Dream tour toColumbus, Consumer 10's Kurt Ludlow reported on Friday.

"Saving homes, saving families and sometimes even saving lives, where we're able to on site,same day, restructure mortgages to get you an affordable mortgage payment, homeowners saving $500,sometimes $1,000 a month," said NACA chief executive officer Bruce Marks. "It's free, so peoplehave everything to gain and absolutely nothing to lose."

Those in danger of losing their homes are able to speak face-to-face with counselors and theirlender, in an effort to reduce their mortgage payments.

"People who work with a housing counselor are 60 percent more likely to save their home thanpeople who don't," said Ohio Housing Finance Agency spokeswoman Cindy Flaherty.

This event will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Tuesday.  You need loan documents andverification of income and should be prepared to be there for several hours.
