Buckeye Lake mayor ousted after recall election

Last month, the village council voted unanimously to hold the special election in response to a petition signed by more than 250 residents.

BUCKEYE LAKE, Ohio — Buckeye Lake residents voted to oust Mayor Jeryne Peterson in a recall election on Tuesday.

Last month, the village council voted unanimously to hold the special election in response to a petition signed by more than 250 residents.

Peterson was issued censures twice by council over the summer. In September, she was issued a vote of no confidence for alleged miscommunication issues and inability to work together, according to village leaders. A former village staff member also filed a civil rights violation against Peterson.

The question residents were asked at the poll was "Shall Jeryne Peterson be allowed to continue as mayor?"

According to the Licking County Board of Election, there were 229 "no" votes and 73 "yes" votes.

The votes are unofficial, but are expected to be certified by the board next week.

Village council president Linda Goodman will take over until a new mayor can be elected in November.
