Man Formally Charged With Shooting Estranged Wife, Her Friend

A man faces a judge after he is accused of trying to kill his wife and another man. Get the story.

A man who was accused of shooting his ex-wife and a friend told a judge on Monday that he was not guilty.

Lancaster police said that George Conrad shot his ex-wife, Misty Conrad, and her friend Kevin Iles, on Saturday outside a Lancaster home.

Conrad, 49, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and pleaded insanity to a judge on Monday, 10TV’s Kevin Landers reported.

Morgan Conrad, the couple’s daughter, and her two brothers, Logan and Quentin Conrad, said they could not believe that their father could be accused of shooting their mother.

“I can't believe this happened,” Logan Conrad said. “I never thought he would do this.”

Police said that on the morning of the shooting, George Conrad staked out the Lancaster home where Misty and Iles were staying, Landers reported.

Family members said that George Conrad hid in Misty Conrad’s car waiting for her.

He then shot her in the lower job, and she collapsed on the sidewalk a few feet away, police said.

Neighbors said that Iles was shot three times.

Morgan Conrad said that her mother was in high spirits despite her injury.

“She’s so strong, and I’m just so happy she’ll recover,” Morgan Conrad said. “I still love (my father) because he was my dad, and people may not understand that or the situation.”

Quentin Conrad said that he still is at a loss.

“I know they had problems, but I never thought it would go to this,” Quentin Conrad said.

George Conrad, a father of seven, was in jail on Monday on $1 million bond.

Conrad’s attorney requested that Conrad be placed in a mental facility after he said that he wanted to kill himself, but the judge denied the request saying that Conrad was a flight risk, Landers reported.

George Conrad’s mother told Landers that her son suffers from bi-polar disorder and that he was not taking his medication.

Both Misty Conrad and Iles were expected to recover.
