Police: Woman critically injured after stabbing in Newark; suspect in custody

Detectives will be presenting the case to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office for a charge of attempted murder.

NEWARK, Ohio — A 49-year-old woman is seriously injured and a suspect is in custody after a stabbing in Licking County Saturday evening, police said.

Officers with the Newark Division of Police were called to the 300 block of Woods Avenue in Newark around 4:40 p.m. on a report of a woman being stabbed.

Police were told that the suspect, identified as the adult son of the victim, had fled the scene. Officers were able to locate the suspect in the area of Hoover Street and Mount Vernon Road and take him into custody.

The victim was transported by helicopter to a Columbus area hospital in critical condition.

Detectives will be presenting the case to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office for a charge of attempted murder.
