National Weather Service confirms EF0 tornado in Licking County

The weather agency said the winds reached a maximum speed of 75 mph and was 150 yards wide. Surveyors described the tornado as brief and weak.

LICKING COUNTY, Ohio — The National Weather Service confirmed an EF0 tornado touched down in Licking County during the round of storms on Tuesday.

The weather agency said the winds reached a maximum speed of 75 mph and was 150 yards wide. Surveyors described the tornado as brief and weak.

The NWS said the tornado developed initially in Franklin Township near Sand Hollow Road SE and moved northeast for more than five miles.

Tree damage was seen in the path from Sand Hollow Road SE and northeast along Fairview Road, Brownsville Road SE and across Poplar Forks Road SE before it lifted.

Barns and outbuildings on Poplar Forks Road SE and Fairview Road suffered minor structural damage, according to the NWS.

On Wednesday, the NWS confirmed that an EF1 tornado hit Adams County near West Union. The tornado lasted 11 minutes, hit estimated wind speeds of 100 mph, measured 500 yards wide and traveled eight miles.

The weather agency also confirmed that an EF2 tornado touched down in Jackson County and EF1s hit Lawrence County and Guernsey County. Three tornadoes hit Muskingum County, including two EF1s and one EF0.

Tuesday’s storms brought flooding waters to parts of central Ohio. Some areas were under flood warnings as rivers rose over their banks and ponding occurred on some major roadways.
