Reynoldsburg officer delivers coffee, food after arresting delivery driver

Jill Creiglow was wondering what was taking so long for her Uber driver to deliver her food on Monday. She soon learned it was because the driver was arrested.

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio — Monday morning, Jill Creiglow was running late and decided to have Caribou coffee delivered. Just like her, the delivery was running behind.

“It said 26 minutes. I'm like, this is ridiculous,” she said.

That's when her Ring camera went off.

"When I looked at the Ring I was like, 'Why is there a police officer at my door?' I looked at my sister and I'm like, we didn't do anything!” Creiglow said.

About 30 minutes earlier, Jill's Uber driver was pulled over. The driver had an outstanding warrant and was arrested.

Reynoldsburg police officer James Dunn saw the order in the car.

“Unfortunately he was delivering food and I saw the food just sitting there on the floorboard of the passenger side of the vehicle and just thought I should deliver,” Dunn said.

Dunn got the address from the delivery driver, grabbed the coffees and sandwiches, and finished the job.

“I thought it was the right thing to do. No reason to make a bad situation worse,” Dunn said.

Dunn showed up at Jill's house with his hands full.

“I'm sorry it's late. Unfortunately, the gentleman got pulled over and got arrested. I didn't want you to go without your food,” Dunn could be heard telling Jill in her Ring camera video.

Dunn is taking protecting and serving to a new level. Creiglow wanted to make sure Dunn knew how much it meant to her.

“Just thank you. We really appreciated our coffee yesterday morning!” she said.

Uber said all potential drivers are required to go through a background check process which checks for criminal offenses at the local, state and federal level. Drivers are re-screened annually and the company has continuous background checks in place to monitor for new offenses.
