COLUMBUS, Ohio — An 18-year-old Eastland Career Center student from Reynoldsburg was killed in a crash on I-270 in southeast Columbus Monday night.

The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. on I-270 East just north of State Route 33.

Police said 18-year-old Chandra Basnet was in her car pulled over on the right shoulder after being involved in a non-injury crash when a semi-tractor trailer hit her vehicle.

Police said Basnet's car was sticking out into the right lane.

Basnet was thrown from her car and detectives said she was then hit by another vehicle that left the area.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Basnet was a senior at Eastland Career Center and was enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program.

"Chandra will be greatly missed by the students, staff, and administration at Eastland Career Center," the school said in a written statement.

The semi also struck the other car that was involved in the initial non-injury crash with Basnet. One person was inside in that second car but was not hurt.

The semi driver remained at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.

Anyone with information on the driver and vehicle that left the scene is asked to call Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
