Sheriff: 58-year-old man killed in shooting at Licking County home

An investigation into the fatal shooting remains under investigation.

LICKING COUNTY, Ohio — A 58-year-old man is dead after a shooting at a home in Licking County Thursday evening, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were called to the 5800 block of Jacksontown Road SE in Licking Township around 11:50 p.m. on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Todd Weiland, of Newark, suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies immediately began CPR.

After Heath Fire Department and Licking Township Fire Department arrived, they pronounced Weiland deceased.

According to the sheriff’s office, detectives conducted numerous interviews with individuals who were at the residence when the shooting occurred. Deputies arrested 41-year-old Richard Kreager, of Columbus, at the scene.

He is charged with receiving stolen property and weapons under disability.

Detectives are meeting with the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office Friday to discuss further charges against Kreager.
