Franklin County Sheriff's Office releases results of 1st crime blitz of 2024

The operation took place over a 12-hour period in Prairie and Franklin Townships.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — The Franklin County Sheriff's Office completed its first crime blitz operation of the year on Thursday. 

"Operation Unity" was designed to combat illegal activities such as thefts and drug-related crimes. The operation also aims to address the rise in stolen vehicles, shots fired calls and felonious assaults. 

The operation took place over a 12-hour period in Prairie and Franklin townships.

Deputies made 14 felony arrests and seized cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine. Below are the results of Thursday's operation.

•123 Traffic stops

• 64 citations

• 14 Felony arrests

• 20 misdemeanor arrests

• 11 illegally possessed firearms

• 8 grams of cocaine seized

• 11 grams of fentanyl seized

• 10 grams of methamphetamine seized

• 3 people referred to treatment

• Stopped a theft in progress at Sheetz. The stolen goods were recovered and returned to the clerk.

The sheriff's office said that in one incident, a recovered gun had been stolen from Houston, Texas just five days prior.

The Columbus Division of Police has conducted two of its own crime blitzes so far this year, focusing on the southern, eastern and northeastern parts of the city.
