Police: Officer crashes into shopping center sign in northwest Columbus

The officer sustained minor injuries, according to the sergeant. Police say the officer is expected to be OK.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus Division of Police officer was injured Tuesday evening after accidentally crashing into a sign in northwest Columbus.

The sign sits in front of the Northwest Shopping Center on West Henderson Road in Columbus’ Northcrest neighborhood.

Officers were called to the scene around 7:35 p.m. for the crash. A sergeant on the scene told 10TV that the officer was assisting a neighboring department on an emergency when they ran into the sign. It's unclear what led to the crash.

The officer sustained minor injuries, according to the sergeant. Police say the officer is expected to be OK.

The cruiser was towed and taken in for repairs.
