Bob Evans restaurant in north Columbus destroyed by fire

Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire at a Bob Evans restaurant Thursday in north Columbus.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire at a restaurant in north Columbus.

The Columbus Division of Fire got an alarm notification around 3 a.m. Thursday from the Bob Evans on State Route 161 near Busch Boulevard.

When crews arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the building. The fire was located in the rear portion of the restaurant.

A Columbus Division of Fire spokesperson tells 10TV one firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and another suffered a minor shoulder injury. Both were transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Columbus Fire officials say the entire roof collapsed at the restaurant and that it looks like the building will be a "total loss."

Bob Evans CEO Saed Mohseni issued the following statement:

We are thankful that nobody was in the Bob Evans restaurant on Dublin-Granville Road when the fire started. It is too soon for us to understand the full implications of the fire. What we can say is that we have been able to relocate all of the affected employees to nearby restaurants, so they will continue to be employed. We thank the first responders for their service and hope that the firefighters who sustained injuries while fighting the fire recover quickly.
