CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — An investigation from the state auditor's office has found that there were no potential criminal violations made by the Circleville Police Department following the investigations into its former chief and deputy chief.
On April 11, the Circleville City Council voted in favor of separation and release agreements between the city's mayor and former police chief Shawn Baer and deputy chief Doug Davis who were each at the center of alleged misconduct investigations.
The next day, Baer was allowed to retire and Davis was allowed to resign.
As part of the agreement, Baer will receive $70,000 from the police department, plus more than $24,000 for unused, accrued vacation, personal and sick time.
Davis will receive $69,000 from the department, plus more than $14,000 for unused, accrued vacation and personal time.
Both agreements also stated the city would cease its internal investigation into the allegations of potential misconduct.
The Special Investigations Unit for the auditor's office is referring the items to the audit region to consider as part of the regular financial audit for potential noncompliance or control issues.
