1 killed in East 17th Avenue shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police say one person has died following a shooting in north Columbus.

According to police, it happened Monday just before 7 p.m. in the 1000 block of East 17th Avenue.

Officers found Jermar Watters, 32, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to Ohio State University Hospital in critical condition and later was pronounced dead.

According to a release obtained from Columbus police, there were two other victims involved including a 52-year-old and 9-year-old. The release did not say if those victims were injured.

Authorities learned that 54-year-old Kevin Johnson and Watters were involved in an altercation when Johnson shot Watters.

Johnson was arrested on Tuesday, July 28 by Columbus SWAT officers. He has been charged with murder.
