Truck windows smashed in Olde Towne East neighborhood of Columbus

Early Tuesday morning around 3 a.m., their home surveillance camera captured the moment two vehicles had their windows smashed.

Parking on the street is common to see on a holiday whether it's you when you go to visit or have people over to your house. But this holiday season, there’s an important safety warning you should be aware of.

This week, cars were broken into in the Olde Towne East neighborhood in Columbus.

Homeowners tell 10TV the situation could’ve been much worse.

One of the victims was a college student.

"It’s kind of unbelievable,” said Josh Snyder-Hill. His niece and her boyfriend were staying with Snyder-Hill and his husband while the two attend school at the Ohio State University.

Early Tuesday morning around 3 a.m., their home surveillance camera captured the moment when a vehicle pulled up in front of the home.

The video appears to show someone breaking into the truck parked out front, smashing the window. A few moments later, you can see the vehicle pull up to another truck parked on the street, and smash that window.

Snyder-Hill said his niece’s boyfriend is shaken up. And later Tuesday afternoon, he went to clean up the glass.

That’s when the video shows a Jeep, with the back driver’s side passenger window smashed out, pull up to the truck.

"A kid jumps out and tries to steal the truck, while my niece’s boyfriend is in it trying to clean it up from the night before,” said Snyder-Hill. “That just felt real close to home considering he was in the car that's just really immediate.”

He said nothing happened to his niece’s boyfriend.

Snyder-Hill is urging everyone this holiday season and every day to not leave anything valuable inside your vehicle.
