Man pleads not guilty to murder, weapons charges from shooting near troubled Columbus bus terminal

Jibril Kim is facing charges stemming from a deadly shooting near a west Columbus Greyhound Bus terminal earlier this month.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a Franklin County courtroom Friday, Jibril Kim answered to murder and weapons charges stemming from a deadly shooting on Oct. 8 near a troubled west Columbus bus terminal.

Kim pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Columbus police were called to the Greyhound Bus terminal in the 800 block of North Wilson Road just after 11 that night.

Police said Rhys Jones was shot and killed at the scene. Neighbors of the nearby Greyhound terminal have had concerns for months.

"Folks, I think are frustrated and angry,” said Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein. “You know, my team just had a community meeting with about 50 to 100 Angry neighbors who you know, vented to city personnel have their frustration and I get it. I know they're frustrated.”

In July, one month after the bus terminal opened, Klein filed an injunction to have it shut down. But a judge rescheduled that court date from Nov. 1 to Dec. 8.

“We’re not going to give up on our full-court pressure to move Greyhound to shut down its operation and get it out of the neighborhood. And that can happen a couple of different ways. That can happen in December at the court hearing if the judge agrees with us, although we're also going to keep an open mind and working with Greyhound. And if we can find an alternative location, I'm open to that too."

The terminal was relocated from its former location downtown, where there were similar concerns for years. Back in May of 2021, police responded to a shooting there. It was one of hundreds of calls of stabbings, assaults and overdoses.

Greyhound did not respond to our request for comment.
