Authorities: Columbus murder suspect arrested in Virginia

Ryan Polk, 36, has been charged with murder in the death of 31-year-old Morgan Bruster.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man wanted in the shooting death of a woman in northeast Columbus was arrested in Virginia Monday night.

On Feb. 23, the Columbus Division of Police received a call requesting officers to check on the wellbeing of 31-year-old Morgan Bruster. Franklin County Municipal Court records say Bruster had a history of domestic violence issues with 36-year-old Ryan Polk, who was described by a family member as an estranged boyfriend.

Officers found Bruster dead in her vehicle at an apartment complex on Stapleton Drive. Detectives determined through their investigation and through surveillance video in the area that Polk left with Bruster, returned a short time later and shot her, records say. Polk then got into an Uber and left the scene.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers with the US Marshals and Fairfax County Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension found Polk.

Detectives attempted to stop Polk who was driving a vehicle. Authorities say he attempted to drive away, striking multiple police vehicles before he was arrested. Officers and Polk suffered minor injuries during the arrest.

Polk is charged with murder.
