After nearly 40 years, the Columbus Division Of Police rolled out a new design for its cruisers on Monday.

The Division’s 90 SUVs will now have a new look, complete with a silver badge on the side, with ‘POLICE’ in white lettering with a red and blue background.  In addition, the fleet will be equipped with anti-idling technology.  All future SUVs will also have the same appearance.

Of the cruisers getting a makeover, 69 will go to patrol, five to patrol Lieutenants, four to the K9 Unit, and 12 to freeway patrol.

CPD says this is the first update to its cruisers since 1976.

Columbus Police created the design in house with the city traffic sign shop and the fleet body shop to install.  The average to upgrade was $600 price per cruiser.
