A look inside the writer's room for Shadowbox Live's 'Behind Closed Doors'

"Behind Closed Doors" runs through June 2.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Shadowbox Live has launched its latest sketch comedy and live music show entitled "Behind Closed Doors," but, like all of the company's performances, the show has been more than a year in the making.

"I've been doing this for a very long time and...I look at the world and I think about what we can all, sort of, relate to and then it's my job to find a way to make that funny," explained Jimmy Mak, head writer for Shadowbox Live.

The process to bring one of Shadowbox Live's shows to life starts a year before the first performance.

Mak leads a diverse team of six other writers as they pitch ideas for skits, develop jokes, and write-then-read-then-rewrite draft after draft before bringing the ideas to Producing Director Julie Klein for feedback.

"A draft will go through a number of changes before it gets to the stage," said Mak, "Even sometimes once it gets to the stage, we hear it with an audience and go, 'Oh, you know what, we can do better than that' and we'll actually still go back and rewrite sketches."

"Behind Closed Doors" is Shadowbox Live's newest show and is described by Mak as "basically...love, relationships, dirty little secrets." It runs through June 2 and for showtimes and ticket information, click here.
