1 killed, 2 seriously injured in Knox County crash

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — A 48-year-old man was killed and two people were seriously injured in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in Knox County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. on U.S. Route 36 near Graham Road in Liberty Township.

According to OSHP, a 17-year-old driving a Jeep Cherokee eastbound went left of center and struck a Honda Accord traveling westbound head-on.

A passenger in the backseat of the Accord, identified as 48-year-old Paul Baker, of Newark, died at the scene. 

The 47-year-old woman driving the Accord and a 23-year-old front-seat passenger were both taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus and treated for serious injuries.

The 17-year-old driver of the Cherokee was treated at the scene with minor injuries. 

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing their seatbelts, according to OSHP. Alcohol and drug use are not suspected factors.

The crash remains under investigation.
