Hit-and-run crash, dump truck fire cause hourslong road closure

Police were called at 11:24 a.m. for a hit-and-run crash involving a car and dump truck.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — All lanes were closed on Interstate 70 West at I-71 North near 4th Street for more than an hour because of a truck fire.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called at 11:24 a.m. for a hit-and-run crash involving a car and dump truck.

Dispatchers said the truck caught fire under the 4th Street bridge and no injuries were reported. The other car involved in the crash did not stay at the scene.

Columbus firefighter Luke Smiley said, “The bridge was a concern for us, the integrity of the bridge with the high heat, so we had that shut down. It's being looked at for its integrity”.
