Morrow County Deputy Honored with ‘America’s Most Wanted’ Award Says He Thinks About Shooting Daily

10TV’s Maureen Kocot talks to Deputy Brandon Moore, who is awarded the “America’s Most Wanted” 2012 All-Star award. Get the story.

A Morrow County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot multiple times said Wednesday that the shooting is never far from his mind.

Deputy Brandon Moore, who is back on the job as a burglary detective, was one of several first responders nominated for the “America’s Most Wanted” 2012 All-Star award.

Moore was named the 2012 All-Star earlier this week, 10TV’s Maureen Kocot reported.

Moore survived a shootout with a man suspected of running a major drug-growing operation in October 2010. The deputy was shot four times in his torso and leg.

“To be honest, I think about it every day; you can’t not think about it,” Moore said.

Moore’s injuries left one leg a full inch shorter than the other, Kocot reported. He endured 15 surgeries and two months in the hospital before making a comeback.

“When I’m hobbling down the hall in bare feet, it makes you think about it,” Moore said.

Investigators said that Shane Roush had more than 1,000 marijuana plants growing in a greenhouse behind his Morrow County home. Moore managed to return fire and shoot Roush from about 60 yards away, Kocot reported.

“When you add it all up, I shouldn’t have lived,” Moore said. “It’s a miracle, plain and simple.”

Roush was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2011.

Moore said that he found out he won the All-Star hero award by a direct phone call from “America’s Most Wanted” founder John Walsh.

“I answered the phone, ‘Brandon, it’s John Walsh,’ and he told me he’d never seen such a landslide majority vote,” Moore said.

Moore also was nominated for the Congressional Badge of Bravery and the National Medal of Valor in 2011.
