Utica man accused of stealing grave markers from cemetery in Bladensburg

A 24-year-old Utica man was arrested on suspicion of stealing grave markers in Licking County on Friday.

MARY ANN TWP. – A 24-year-old Utica man was arrested on suspicion of stealing grave markers in Licking County on Friday.

Dustin Johnson was charged with possessing criminal tools and theft. He pleaded not guilty on July 13 in Licking County Municipal court. He was arraigned and posted bond.

According to a report from the Licking County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson and a woman were found on the property in the 5400 block of Fallsburg Road NE in Mary Ann Township.

A car that belonged to the woman’s mother was searched during the arrest and a five-gallon trash bag with 43 metal gravesite markers were found inside, the report stated.

According to the deputy, Johnson intended on selling the gravesite markers for scrap. He said he got the markers from a cemetery near Bladensburg. Johnson already had a warrant for his arrest on file.

The woman was not charged.
