From inside his Columbus apartment, one of the two teenagers charged for making explosive devices said had no intention of hurting anyone or anything.

He says he made his homemade explosives in his bedroom and ever since he was a little boy he was fascinated with fireworks.

Investigators with Columbus Division of Fire were first were notified of a bomb found in a retention pond inside a Lewis Center housing development on June 15.

A resident on Arrow Feather Lane found a fire extinguisher that had fireworks duct taped to it and a burnt wick.

It turns out the device wasn't active, but the bomb squad was called out as a precaution and six homes were evacuated until detectives could determine what it was.

That same day, investigators located the suspects and it was then that they got a search warrant to go inside an apartment. Inside detectives said they found five pounds of explosive powder and 15 improvised devices.

"You can call it a firework if everyone is away from it, in a duffel bag it's a bomb so the fact is it's dangerous and it's illegal," Battalion Chief Steve Martin of the Columbus Division of Fire said.

The 15-year-old told 10TV he bought the powder online. Fire investigators said it was concerning on multiple levels.

"It could have leveled that apartment or done significant damage to the third floor of the apartment building," said Battalion Chief Martin.
